About me.

It started with a first-year essay in Bible college on the topic: "What is the Song of Songs about?"

After reading all the commentaries in my college library, I felt like nobody actually knew the answer. So I spent the next 10 years thinking and reading about it. Now I've made a job out of telling other people what I found out.
A colleague of mine observed, "You have a very strong contract with God when it comes to the Song of Songs."
I have a PhD in Biblical Studies (Old Testament), which makes me Dr Wüst. The full title of my PhD was The Song of Songs in the Hebrew Bible: Inner-Biblical Allusions Embodied by Solomon and the Daughters of Jerusalem. I argued that the Song of Songs is a warning to Israel about how they conduct themselves in sexual relationships, in light of the fact that Solomon's issues with women led to public idolatry and that whole kingdom-split-devolving-into-exile thing.

God put the Song in my path in a hard season in my marriage -  at a time when I especially needed the words of the Song written on my heart. In his goodness, God refines me through my work on the Song and daily renews my enthusiasm to love the right things in the right way. My relationship with this book is intensely personal and my concerns are deeply pastoral.

In addition to speaking, I currently teach or have taught at Queensland Theological College, Moore Theological College, Ridley College, Trinity College Queensland and Mary Andrews College. I mostly teach Old Testament topics and Biblical Hebrew, but I also like working with research students (of all disciplines) when I get the chance.

Before the Bible I studied theatre and music. My hobbies are all frivolous things like learning about wine and watching schlocky cult TV shows from the 90s then listening to podcasts about them. I live in Brisbane with my husband, who's a writer, and my son, who's a wonder.
